He becomes an African Health and Social Entrepreneur when as a practising Optometrist and Vision Scientist, he founded PHG alongside a Team of voluntary mangers in Community Health Promotion & Vision Care services, especially in deprived areas in Ghana, West Africa.
Michael began PHG as a voluntary organisation a few years ago, when he joined a team of Volunteers to Rural-Urban Communities in Ghana, and seeing people reporting late for clinical treatment on what is termed "preventable blindness" or a number of avoidable deaths; the task was more of preventive care.
Serving people in these communities with quality, affordable and socially sustainable for Professional Mobile Eye Health Partnership Services, & Community Health Promotion Social Enterprise services/products. This they have dutifully done over the last 2- 3 years, as a blend of Social enterprise and voluntary organisation.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) International Agency for The Prevention of Blindness, 80% of global eye conditions is preventable, if people have access to Professional care at an affordable and sustainable cost. Unfortunately, about 89% of the global Visual impairment is found in developing nations including Ghana, and African nations in extension.
Michael has visited 8 out of the 10 regions of Ghana, over 80 communities and cared for about 18,000 people with the PHG Team/ partners and referred many to secondary and tertiary health facilities for further care.
There is ecstasy for continuous innovation to blending Community Health Promotion, Vision Care project modules, Social Enterprise, & Technological transformation, as they work to scale, to many communities in Ghana, and beyond.
For us at PHG, we seek to expand and create sustainable Community Health promotion products, delivery & vision care accessibility service on social enterprise centres, mobile clinic vans & vans for travelling and caring for People in communities in Ghana/Africa, and training community volunteers to be employable through the project module channels.
