The bird sitting on a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking because its trust is not in the branch, but in its own wings. I need to serve warning to my readers that this write-up contains language of sexual nature and references.
But don’t blame me for this, because I have to mention and report the incidents the exact way they happened. So like the bird on the branch, I hope you have the shock absorbers to sail through the story with me.
It all started in 2010 when a media house boasted that it had custody of a sex-tape involving a Nigerian businessman with actresses Jackie Appiah, Nadia Buhari and Lydia Forson.
The media house threatened to release the video. The entertainment industry was cowed into submission, because the video concerned Ghana’s three biggest acts at the time. The truth of that video is yet to be confirmed up till today, the Ga man will say “Ke Ba Shie Nmene”. Or were we all taken for a merry go round?
Itz Tiffany
Push forward to 2015 and it was Itz Tiffany’s sex-tape which surfaced online. The musician, born Tiffany Owusu, condemned in no uncertain terms the circulation of the sexually-explicit videos involving her and her ex-husband.
She accused her bitter ex-husband of releasing the tapes. Two of the videos, she said, were recorded while she was legally married to her ex-husband and she is utterly shocked that the father of her only child would do such a disgusting thing.
Amanda Acquah
And then bang!! In 2016, it was Amanda Acquah’s (ex-wife of footballer Afriyie Acquah) masturbating tape. The video found its way on the internet and showed a naked Amanda playing with a dildo.
According to sources, the said video was sent by Amanda to her husband (Afriyie Acquah) privately, but it got leaked by a girlfriend of Afriyie Acquah who got it from his phone.
The video really got to Amanda and she even threatened to commit suicide in a very long emotional laden post on Instagram.
According to Amanda she has sacrificed a lot for her husband, Afriyie Acquah, but he ended up betraying her and giving her sex tape to his new girlfriend to release it on the internet.
Christabel Ekeh
2017 started with change, after the New Patriotic Party government assumed the reins of power. But some things never change, or do they?
When Ghanaians feasted their eyes on the nude photos of actress Christabel Ekeh, boldly splashed on her Instagram page, we gave her the benefit of the doubt. We all explained it away that, her official Instagram account seems to have been compromised by some wicked hackers.
However, a very honest Christabel set our minds at ease, saying she (herself) displayed the nude pictures of herself on social media and it was a way of introducing to the world the “new” Christabel.
The nude photos of the “new” Christabel had her in a yoga sitting position and in an almost backflip position. The pictures attracted a lot of criticism and were taken off Instagram since it violated its nudity rules.
Rashida Black Beauty
Now the mother of all sex-tapes by Rashida black beauty is out. Well, for starters, who is this Rashida girl?
Real name Rashida Mohammed, is a 18 year-old Berekum native who went viral after insulting her ex-boyfriend in a video posted on social media in 2016. The controversial video popularised the term ‘malafaka’ (a corruption of the offensive American slang ‘motherfucker’), which she used to abuse her then boyfriend.
The video won the Jigwe Awards as the “Viral video of the year” in 2016, beating the likes of popular Kumawood actor Lil Wayne. The award indeed shot her to fame. But Ghanaians might have forgotten the ‘malafaka’ girl with time.
In order to resuscitate her short lived fame, Rashida’s nude video was released on her own facebook wall.
In the two minutes video, she is seen shaking her ‘bum bum’ and openly displaying her vagina in an act reminiscent of what we see in porn movies.
Her video received several bashing from the general public and users of social media.
Rashida was on Tuesday 25th July, 2017, invited by the Berekum Police for interrogation into the publication of her naked video on social media, Rashida was granted bail and is expected to report again. Per the Criminal Code of Ghana, publishing nude photos and videos constitute indecent exposure and is punishable by law.
Oh yes! The police are now up and doing. Before the Rashida sex-tape, I have enumerated various sex-tape incidents that happened earlier but the police took no action. If publishing nude photos and videos constitute indecent exposure and punishable by law, then the Ghana Police Service have a lot of work to do.
The last time the issue affected the police, the Ghana Police Service mounted a search for the person(s) responsible for circulating on social media the pornographic video of a woman, believed to be a police personnel.
We are not in normal times, and the police must be even handed in tackling the canker.
Conclusion
The non-consensual distribution of intimate images (including videos) can occur in various situations involving adults and youth, including relationship breakdown.
During the relationship, the partners may exchange or take intimate photos of themselves for their personal use, but when the relationship breaks down, one of the former partners may distribute the intimate images to seek revenge on their former partner.
A recent survey of adults between the ages of 18 and 54 in the United States found that 1 in 10 ex-partners have threatened to expose intimate photos of their ex on-line, and according to the survey, these threats have been carried out in 60% of the cases.
The time to act is now! Over to the Ghana Police Service.
