The police administration is asking Ghanaians to disregard videos, which have gone viral on the social media where some security personnel are seen brutalising people. According to the police, the videos have nothing to do with the ongoing lockdown orders that the police and the military are enforcing.
In a short statement the police said, “We have seen some videos, which are not related to the ongoing COVID operation trending as though they are recent videos.”
According to the police administration, about four videos or so speculating, especially on Facebook are unrelated to the Covid-19 operation, therefore, they must be disregarded by the public.
The police are, however, encouraging the citizens to stay at home as directed by President Akufo-Addo in order to contain the spread of the virus. The statement further urged people to adhere the directive, in order for the disease to be contained after which there will be no imposition.
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has also come out to deny the same videos saying they are recycling of past clips some of which did not even occur in the country.Meanwhile, images continue to flood the various social platforms of security officers brutalising ordinary citizens.
In one of such videos, which reportedly occurred in Kumasi-Tafo, a citizen whose offence is not known is seen being punished by a military personnel. The said citizen also took the law into his hands by punching the face of the said military man and took to his heels.
There was another one where a lady walking at night on the street also believed to have happened in Kumasi, was ordered by some officers to squat and hop home.
