The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has refuted claims by a section of the media that eleven Togolese nationals have tested positive in Kumasi while in transit to Pwalugu.
A statement issued on Thursday April 3, 2020 by the Public Relations Officer, Henrietta Afia Konadu Aboagye described the said media reports as false and a mere fabrication to cause fear and panic and that it should be disregarded with all the contempt it deserves.
The KMA spokesperson explained that the Togolese nationals, twelve in number, were travelling from Kwame Seikrom to Pwalugu but got stranded in Kumasi after they missed their bus at the Race Course terminal.
As a result, the station chairman informed the Bantama Sub-Metro administrator of the presence of the Togolese nationals at the terminal upon which the Metro Health Team for COVID -19 were called in to take blood samples and held in a private residence in isolation.
The KMA explained further that a letter by the Metro Health Director to the Regional Immigration office and copied to the Metro Chief Executive indicated that the test on the Togolese proved negative.
Subsequently, the said Togolese nationals have been referred to the Ghana Immigration Service for the necessary line of action.
The statement assured the public to be calm and that all any information concerning COVID-19 will be officially communicated through the Ministry of Information.
