Some four hundred and six (406) persons have been arrested across the country for failing to respect the lockdown regulations.
ACP Lydia Donkor, Director, Legal and Prosecution, Ghana Police Service, made the announcement on Tuesday, at a media briefing on government’s fight against the novel Coronavirus.
Giving some regional breakdown, she said in the Volta Region, sixty-seven (67) cases have been reported on people flouting the lockdown regulations, Western region has eight (8).
In the Eastern region, six (6) cases have been recorded, nine cases for the Northern region nine (9), Central region has 24 cases, North East one, Upper East eight (8) cases, Upper West two (2), Western North eight (8) among others.
But no cases have been reported in the Oti, Savannah, Bono East and Ahafo regions.
ACP Lydia Donkor reminded Ghanaians that it was against the Imposition of Restriction Act 2020 to flout the lockdown and that offenders will be prosecuted.
Meanwhile offenders are likely to suffer a minimum fine of ¢12,000.00 or serve a jail term of at least 4 years, or both.
