The former Black Stars skipper believes Coach Kwesi Appiah regretted his decision to ring changes in the team’s leadership ahead of 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana international Asamoah Gyan says the former Black Stars coach made a wrong decision to strip him of the captaincy ahead of the last edition of tournament staged in Egypt.
Few weeks to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, Andre Ayew was named the new captain of the senior national team.
“I am very sure he (Kwesi Appiah) regrets making that decision, I know he has regrets and believes he made the wrong decision,” Gyan told GTV Sport Plus.
“No disrespect to Andre, he is a wonderful leader and a motivator. But I feel the timing was wrong and I know he (Kwesi Appiah) regrets though we haven’t spoken since,” he added.
Gyan believes the decision to stripped him of the Black Stars captaincy has resulted his sour relationship with Coach Appiah after the tournament.
“I don’t remember the last time I spoke to him, since the Cup of Nations tournament there hasn’t been any contacts. But personally I feel he regrets his decision,”
Gyan has capped 109 times for Ghana with 51 goals to his credit.
