The Paramount Chief of the Sefwi-Wiawso Traditional Area in the Western North Region, Nana Elluo Payin, has presented Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worth GH¢50,000 to the Western North Regional Coordinating Council towards the fight against the deadly Coronavirus.
Currently, the newly created region has recorded 60 confirmed cases.
The items donated are aimed to be distributed to some identifiable groups who are frontline workers, such as health institutions, the media, and other public institutions.
The items donated include 110 Veronica buckets, 25 boxes of hand sanitisers, 75 packs of tissue paper, 1,120 pieces of toilet roll, 500 gallons of liquid soap, 2,000 pieces of locally made nose masks, and 500 pieces of clinical nose masks.
The rest are 20 surgical gloves, 100 aprons, and 20 pairs of boots.
Presenting the items on behalf of Nana Elluo Payin, Chief of Sefwi-Nsuansua, who doubles as the Kyidomhene of the Wiawso Traditional Area, said the fight against the novel Coronavirus was a collective responsibility, hence, the donation to augment the government’s efforts in the fight against the pandemic.
He commended the government’s efforts and, therefore, called on Ghanaians to take into account and adhere to all the accepted directives, protocols and measures, which include frequent hand washing with soap under running water, observing social and physical distancing, wearing of nose masks, and avoiding over-crowded places.
Mr Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu, Western North Regional Minister and MP for Bibiani-Anhwiaso- Bekwai, who received the items, commended Okatakyie Kwasi Bumangama II for the gesture, and promised to distribute them to all the health and public institutions in the region.
He reminded residents that the ban on the closure of drinking spots and pubs as well as the traditional market days was still in force, and asked them to comply with the directives instituted by the Regional Coordinating Council
Representatives of media houses who received their share of the PPE commended the Paramount Chief for his contribution.
