Gold Fields Damang Mine has, for the second time, gone to the rescue of the Prestea Hunni-Valley Municipal Health Directorate, by donating assorted Physical Protective Equipment (PPE) for use in the fight against the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The second batch of the presentation was done by the Regional Manager Sustainability, Mr. Razak Abdul Yakubu, which was received by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Dr. Isaac Dasmani, for onward distribution to the Health Directorate.
The PPE, estimated at a total cost of $108,000, included 21,400 pairs of hand gloves, 15,670 pocket sized alcohol based hand sanitisers, 5,408 surgical masks, 5,832 N95 masks, and 1,080 protective gowns.
The rest are 90 goggles, 692 sample collection kits, 90 pairs of surgical wellington boots, 30 veronica buckets, and 41 hand held non-contact infra-red thermometers amongst others.
Dr. Isaac Dasmani, who received the donation, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the management of the mining company for the gesture.
He said, considering that the country was not in normal times, the donation would go to help in the fight against the pandemic in the Municipality.
Dr. Dasmani said he had taken the MCE position at the time cases in the Municipality were spiking, and, therefore, the donation, he assured, would be put to good use to save human lives.
He said the donation from the mining company was his first since assuming the office of MCE a week ago.
Mr. Razak Abdul Yakubu, Regional Manager in charge of Sustainability, who made the presentation on behalf of management of Gold Fields Damang Mine, said management felt proud to make the donation.
“I don’t know if the MCE has received any donation since he assumed office. But he will be receiving more donations from Gold Fields,”
He said Gold Fields has had good relationship with the Municipal Assembly and would cooperate with him, be law abiding and ensure the total development of the Municipality.
Describing the donation as ‘consumables’, considering that the items are disposed off immediately after use, the Regional Sustainability Manager told the recipients it would not hesitate to donate more when the need arises.
He said, considering that the PPE are scarce worldwide, the company used its procurement channels to procure the items.
The Municipal Health Director, Dr. Emanuel Kofi Tamakloe, who received the donation, pledged to put the items to very good use in the fight against the pandemic.
