The bodyguard of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase and Minority Chief Whip, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, nearly shot a certain Boyoo, a known member of Delta Force, a vigilante group, who claims to be an operative of National Security.
The Chronicle has gathered that tension has been characteristic of the two centers at Baba Kompo at Aboabo No. 2 since the start of the new voters registration last Saturday.
The paper also gathered that Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, last Tuesday, tasked his bodyguard to help the fire officer in providing security at the centre during his routine rounds, upon realising that only one fire service personnel had been detailed to provide security.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) agent at the center, however, kicked against the idea of the MP’s bodyguard complementing the role of the security officer.
According to an eyewitness, the NPP agent prompted the patrolling military personnel to ask the police officer to leave the center, since eligible registrants were being intimidated by his (bodyguard’s) presence, but the bodyguard insisted unless his boss (MP Muntaka) who assigned him there asked him to leave the place, he would not.
According to the report, while the military officer was trying to convince the policeman to leave the scene, one Boyoo, a known member of the defunct Delta Force, appeared on the scene with his identity as National Security personnel, and ordered the police officer to leave, threatening to shoot him (bodyguard) if he dared resist his orders.
A nasty situation following the scuffle was prevented when the Asawase MP eventually ordered his bodyguard to leave the scene.
Meanwhile, a check by The Chronicle on Wednesday morning, a day after the incident, indicated very low turnout at the centre, as eligible voters were living in fear.
