The family heads and elders of the Yaa Awe House, Krabi House, Akyere House, Anokye Kwasi House, Afia Nsia House and Biani House, constituting the royal family of Asante Agona Asenie, have advised angry youth of the community to exercise restraint while they (elders) find lasting ways of resolving their grievances against the Omanhene of the Agona Traditional area, Nana Anokye Frimpong Ababio.
The youth have, since last year February, been pushing for the destoolment of the Omanhene following charges of illegal disposal of Okomfo Anokye Amoanpong stool property in Kumasi.
The elders claim a search at the Lands Commission on July 27, 2017, indicated that the Okomfo Anokye Amoampong Stool property located on PLOT NO.OTB 105 had been leased to a private businessman by Nana Anokye Frimpong Ababio for 49 years, which transaction the family heads see as a breach of trust on the part of the Agonamanhene.
As a result, they petitioned the Traditional Council for clarification on the issue, but the Council has not responded to the allegation of the disposal of the property since September 5, 2017.
In October 2017, the elders followed it up with a reminder copied to some major stakeholders, including the District Chief Executive (Sekyere South), the Chairman District Security Committee (DISEC), the District Police Commander, and the Member of Parliament, which action also yielded no results.
In a statement dated September 9, 2020, Abusuapanin Yaw Atakora of the Anokye Akwasi royal household; Abusuapanin Yaw Oti-Boateng (Krabi); Abusuapanin Kwame Sarfo and Abusuapanin Kwabena Adu III both of the Akyere Household; Abusuapanin Akwasi Awua (Yaa Awe); Abusuapanin Yaw Oppong (Biani House) and Abusuapanin Akwasi Amoateng of Afua Nsia House said they took the final decision to petition His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on August 13, 2018, hoping the Ashanti King would give them a hearing.
They said the Asantehene had also been informed about the uncustomary installation of a Queenmother by the Asante Agona Traditional Council, illegal disposal of Vocational School land and Agona Government Hospital land among others, and it is in this light that the heads of family are appealing to the youth of Agona to remain calm in wait for the action of the Asantehene to address the issues raised to ensure that peace prevails.
The family heads and elders are seeking the intervention of the Asantehene to prevent the transfer of the property to Dr. Kwaku Frempong, and apply the necessary sanctions against Nana Anokye Frempong Ababio.
Nana Frimpong Anokye Ababio, known in private life as Dr. Daniel Kwasi Berkoh, and a member of the National House of Chiefs, has declined to comment on the allegations by the family heads and elders.
