Leyton Orient’s Carabao Cup third-round clash with Tottenham was called off despite owner Nigel Travers’ insistence that they had a side ‘ready to play’.
‘As far as we’re concerned the game is a postponement not a cancellation. I recognise that is in the guidelines. We have talked to the league about extenuating circumstances.’
According to EFL rules, Orient’s inability to fulfill the fixture hands Spurs a bye into the fourth-round. Travers insisted that the League Two side are determined that the game will only be postponed, instead of cancelled altogether.
Orient confirmed on Monday that 10 of their players had tested positive and that its Breyer Group Stadium and training ground facilities would be closed until further notice.
