The unthinkable has happened at the Manhyia Government Hospital, as a section of the hospital staff have grossly failed or refused to obey the Presidential Order of wearing facemasks.
The Chronicle observed at the Departments of Records and Laboratory of the hospital, during a recent visit, that some staff members, who are supposed to be ambassadors observing the protocols, had grossly violated the mandatory wearing of facemasks.
Few months ago, President Akufo-Addo, per Executive Instrument (E.I 164) made it compulsory for all persons to wear facemasks in public places, in a bid to keep the Coronavirus at bay.
Per the E.I, anyone who fails to wear the facemask, upon arrest, will be made to pay a fine between GH¢12,000 and GH¢60,000 or be imprisoned for 10 years.
Apart from the non-wearing of the facemasks by the staff, this reporter also discovered that a washing basin near the laboratory had no soap for the mandatory hand washing by visitors and patients in particular.
Per the Word Health Organisation (WHO) standards, washing of hands is the safest means of keeping the virus at bay, but this is absent at the Manhyia Government Hospital.
It is, however, unclear if the hand washing area is the only sanitary serving outlet for patients who visit the hospital.
The Chronicle further observed that although there were intermittent temperature check points within the facility, enforcement of the wearing of the facemask was absent.
Attempts to speak to the Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Dr. Michael Opoku, over the issue, were not successful as he would neither pick our call nor respond to the text message sent to him, for over three good days.
