He pleaded with the political parties not to insulate or cocoon these groups of criminals with your party identity, since they, as the police, are ever ready to unmark and strip any monster who foment troubles in the name of politics.
Speaking at the passing out of recruits yesterday at the Police Training at Tesano in Accra, COP Kofi Boakye further admonished the youth not to be allowed to be used by political parties to cause problems for the nation.
“The youth are, therefore, cautioned not to allow themselves to be used as puppets to foment trouble. Please stay away from acts that can gain the only reputation of being called a trouble maker in elections,” he urged.
COP Kofi Boakye, at the event of the passing out, thanked the government on behalf the police administration for its exceptional commitment to supporting the police.
He said the government had been committed to providing personnel of the service with training and retraining, saying: “It is no doubt that training expands the knowledge base of employees, and it is in the light of this that the current administration has resolved to commit more resources towards training and retraining of personnel in the service.”
He described the ongoing training as timely, as the nation is preparing for this year’s parliamentary and presidential elections, and also that “we the police are not oblivious of the enormous task ahead – the political tensions have started mounting; the seasonal routine marches, protests, physical confrontations, surprise attacks, destruction of party billboards and posters associated with elections…”
As the Review Officer to preside over the passing off parade of 352 general recruits, he added that the police administration had been busy training recruits at five training schools in Accra, Kumasi, Koforidua, Ho and Pwalugu.
