President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has challenged the people in the Oti Region to vote massively for him and all the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidates to ensure the development of the newly-created area.
According to him, though some of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) stalwarts come from the northern part of the Volta Region, which they consider their political world bank, they failed woefully to develop the area.
President Akufo-Addo, who was addressing the chiefs and people of Nkonya as part of his campaign tour of the Oti Region, said his government would change the face of development in the area when they give him the nod.
The President said he was always satisfied with the level of appreciation that the chiefs and people in the new region show him in relation to the creation of the Oti Region, assuring them that he would do more if they vote for him and the NPP to lead the country again in the next four years.
The Roads Minister, Mr. Amoako Atta, said the six newly-created regions would receive the needed development to enable them develop faster to the level of the existing 10 regions.
Mr. Amoako Atta continued that 38 new roads were being constructed in the Oti Region, while procurement for 22 more roads were currently underway.
He announced that very soon, a 1.6 kilometre long bridge would be constructed over River Oti at Dambai, and a 1.6 kilometre at a cost of 125 million Euros to connect the two other Krachi districts.
He also revealed that the Kete-Krachi-Banda road will be constructed to facilitate the easy movement of goods and services from the north to the south.
The Minister for Regional Reorganisation and Development, Mr. Dan Botwe, said the only way to appreciate the creation and development of the Oti Region was to vote massively for Nana Addo and the NPP.
The Omanhene of Nkonya-Wurupong, Nana Asiakwa III, thanked Nana Akufo-Addo on behalf of the chiefs and people of Oti for the creation of the region, as well as other developments going on in the region.
He called for the upgrading of the Wurupong Health Center to a clinic to meet the health demands of the people.
Nana Asiakwa noted that the construction of the Akosombo Dam resulted in the loss of their lands, but they have not been compensated.
He, therefore, appealed to Nana Addo to help them get compensation.
He assured the President that the chiefs and people of Nkonya and the entire Oti Region have nothing to do with the group agitating for the independence of Western Togoland.
