Mrs. Rosemond Agyemang, Executive Director of Rosemond Girl Child Foundation has advised women, especially the young ones, not to over rely on their husbands for their daily needs.
According to her, it is long overdue for women to focus on career training programmes to empower themselves in the job market and to be able to partner their husbands at home to make a living, instead of over depending on their husbands.
She gave the advice at a Skills and Livelihoods training for the most vulnerable women who suffered Job losses through the COVID19 pandemic under a Rosemond girl Child Foundation and Global Affairs Canada, through Plan International Ghana collaboration. The theme was: Reducing the spread and mitigating the impact of COVID-19 on vulnerable women.
Mr. Kojo Boateng, from the Municipal Health Directorate Disease Control, indicated that poverty is the cause of violation of wards by some parents, hence the need to support and empower young women so that they would not unduly depend on their husbands.
He entreated them to be serious with their businesses and if possible, form groups or partnerships for growth by selling their products at affordable prices.
Touching on the Coronavirus pandemic, he cautioned the public against stigmatisation. Mr. Boateng disclosed that about 77 cases have been recorded in the Sekyedomase Municipality, with five in Ejura, comprising 40 females and the remaining being male.
Madam Belinda O. Aidoo, the Municipal Social Welfare Director stated that sometimes some parents abuse their children, especially step children, in the name of poverty.
According to her, such attitude towards children can drive them into bad company at the expense of their future aspirations of becoming assets to the whole society.
Madam Aidoo disclosed that married couples also suffer social violence, explaining that women and children are those who are always at the receiving end of violence at home and entreated them to seek assistance from the social welfare when they fall victim to any form of social violence, be itfrom their spouses or parents.
