A team of crack detectives drawn from the Headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service have been dispatched to Asankragwa in the Western Region to conduct forensic investigation into the reported raid of a hotel by persons identified to have come from the National Security Secretariat in Accra.
The raid of X and D hotel and subsequent rounding up of a number of Chinese nationals have left in its wake allegations of theft of huge amounts of money, which quantum has become subject of dispute between the arresting officers and the suspects.
An officer from the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) was also assaulted during the raid.
The detectives from the Crime Scene Management Unit and the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) are backed by heavily armed personnel of the Operations Unit at the Police Headquarters. The scientific method of investigation would attempt to establish or otherwise, if there are traces of finger impressions and related clues as evidence of the alleged crime committed.
Meanwhile, the National Security Secretariat, which is currently investigating the allegations of assault on the immigration officer on duty, has invited the security heads in the Asankragwa area, namely the District Police Commander, District Officer of GIS and the District Officer of the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) to Accra, to aid Inquisition into the reported raid and assault.
Information The Chronicle obtained from a highly placed security source, who preferred anonymity, revealed that sometime on Friday May 7, 2021 the National Security operatives from Accra stormed the X and D hotel in the Asankragwa area.
The men, one in police uniform and armed with a sidearm, with the rest in mufti and armed with AK 47 Assault Rifles, poised for action, allegedly tampered with the Close Circuit Television (CCTV) security camera, took out the CCTV system recorder and proceeded to the cash safe.
It was alleged that over there, some unspecified amount of money was taken, before proceeding to the Casino, also in same building. The narration continued that those present at the Casino were allegedly ordered to surrender their cell phones and money, which they obeyed.
At this juncture, an immigration officer, on suspicion that the actors might not be security officials, went to enquire of their identities and if he could assist them.
That rather infuriated them and they subjected him to severe beatings, apparently in the presence of the Asankragwa District Police Commander.
The report went on that the NIB operative in the district also attempted to have inventory of the seized items taken, but was unsuccessful and they moved away with the apprehended Chinese and the supposed booty. Stay tuned
