The Ashanti Regional Police Command has shot and killed a suspected notorious armed robber, who attempted to flee from lawful custody.
According to a tweet by the Ghana Police Service, Iddrisu Adams, alias Koomi, who was arrested in connection with a series of robberies, had been shot after he attempted to flee from lawful police custody.
The suspect, according to the police, was on the wanted list of the Command and was arrested on 22nd June 2021, during a special police operation.
According to the tweet, on June 23, 2021, Koomi, who was being escorted to places named by him as hide-outs of his accomplices, attempted to escape and the police responded swiftly by shooting him.
Though the peace officers said they rushed the suspect to the St. Martins Hospital at Agroyesum in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The police indicated that they were on the lookout for his accomplices, who are advised to surrender by reporting to the nearest police station.
The tweet assured the public “of our commitment to prevent and fight crime.”
