The Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Mrs. Evelyn Asamoah has sentenced two men, Michael Mensah (alias Yellow) and Jerry Amaglo Senam to a total of 80 years imprisonment for conspiracy and robbery. They received 20 years for each charge, to be served concurrently.
In a separate ruling, six individuals, including Abdul Azi Salisu and George Kwame Azuma
were acquitted of charges related to dishonestly receiving a stolen car. During the trial, prosecuting officer ASP Emmanuel Haligah detailed the events of February 25, 2023.
At around 1:50 am, a woman (name withheld) was returning home in her Toyota Corolla car when she noticed two men on a motorbike following her. Upon arriving at her gate, Mensah and Amaglo attacked her, threatening harm if she did not surrender her vehicle and belongings. Fearing for her safety, the complainant screamed for help, as Mensah jumped into her car, while Amaglo drove off on the motorbike. The stolen vehicle, valued at GH¢150,000 contained personal like Brazilian hair worth GH¢50,000 and two mobile phones valued at a combined GH¢6,700.
The police were notified, leading to an investigation that uncovered further details about the crime. On March 31, 2023 the police arrested Manya Kofi Richard, who revealed he had bought the stolen Samsung S10 from Eric Bawa, who was also apprehended.
Both Mensah and Amaglo later confessed to the robbery.
The duo sold the stolen car to Abdul Aziz for GH¢18,000, with Abdul Salam’s assistance.
Aziz subsequently sold it to George Kwame Azuma for GH¢60,000 after altering its colour.
A person, known as Sixty-Four, was implicated in changing the vehicle’s chassis number.
