The Ministry of the Interior has launched a full-scale investigation into claims that the Special Prosecutor (SP), Mr. Kissi Agyebeng, survived two assassination attempts while performing his duties.
The Ministry’s action follows revelations by the OSP’s Director of Strategy, Research and Communications, Mr. Samuel Appiah Darko, who disclosed on Newsfile on December 6, 2025, that Mr. Agyebeng had escaped two attempts on his life, adding that the nation security are already in the know.
He further alleged on the same programme that he was once handcuffed and beaten by 17 police personnel.
In a statement issued by the Ministry, the allegations carry weighty national security implications and could undermine the government’s intensified anti-corruption drive if found to be true. Preliminary checks have, however, raised questions about the claims.
Initial engagements with Mr. Agyebeng indicate that the alleged assassination attempts occurred before this year, while the Ministry says it has found no record or report of threats against his life at any police station or security agency in the country.
In response, the Minister for the Interior has directed two separate investigations: one into the alleged assassination attempts on the Special Prosecutor, and another into the claim that Mr. Appiah Darko was assaulted and handcuffed by a group of police officers.
“The Ministry has taken up the matter with the seriousness it deserves,” the statement said, adding that “crime does not expire,” hence the need for a thorough probe despite the absence of official reports.
The Ministry assured the public that updates will be provided once the investigations conclude, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and ensuring that all citizens can go about their lawful activities without fear.
