The Volta River Authority (VRA), through its Community Development Programme (CDP) Scholarship Scheme has donated some branded exercise books, pens and textbooks to the Asuaogyaman District Education Directorate at the Abuakwa Basic School in Akosombo last Tuesday.
In all about 27,00 VRA branded exercise books, 13,500 VRA branded pens,324 reading and textbooks and 10 HIV/AIDS Games were donated to be shared among the various schools within the Asuogyaman District in the Eastern Region.
The Corporate Communications Manager of VRA, Mrs Gertrude Koomson who made the donation on behalf of VRA revealed that about 294 students from their impacted communities including pupils and students from the Akosombo, Akuse, Kpone and Aboadze areas have benefitted from the scholarship scheme.
She stated that it was necessary to support the education of students to provide them with the requisite knowledge.
‘VRA believes that there can be no development without education hence our efforts to contribute meaningfully to the formal acquisition of knowledge by children in our communities who eventually would become custodians of whatever development that would be brought to their communities,’ she stated.
A representative of the Asuogyaman District Education Director, Mr. Prosper Yekple who received the items at the Abuakwa Basic School, for his part, thanked VRA for their continuous support towards the education of pupils and students in the district.
He assured that the items would be distributed accordingly and used efficiently to help improve on teaching and learning in the schools.
