Mr Bonaa
Adam Bonaa, a security expert has observed that the government cannot disband vigilante groups in the country, though their activities have dire consequences and negative implications for national security.
“Vigilante groups have no registered numbers, they do not have a permit or residential address you can trace and we don’t know their leaders as well, how can you disband it,” he quizzed.
Speaking to the formation of many vigilante groups in the country, Mr. Bonaa bemoaned the recent endorsements by the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia on the activities of vigilante groups in Ghana’s body politic.
Meanwhile, he had allegedly said even the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu, supports political party vigilante groups.
Mr Nketia made the claim while responding to a statement by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) condemning his recent endorsement of newly-formed vigilante groups of the NDC, the Hawks, lions and dragons.
The NCCE, on September 7, 2018, in a statement condemned Mr Nketia’s endorsement of party vigilante groups.
He endorsed the vigilante groups as a “natural response” to, what he described as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) refusal to disband its own vigilante groups.
“I endorse it fully”, Mr Nketia stressed, justifying that it’s a “proper response” to the “recalcitrance of the ruling government and their refusal to do anything about vigilantes on the NPP side.” –mynewsgh.com
