At least 600 complaints have been lodged, so far, at the Computerised School Selection and Placement (CSSP) solution centre at the Black Star Square for the Greater Accra Region.
These include candidates whose results were withheld by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) but had now been released and placement of candidates done in schools outside their regions.
The centre is one of 10 outlets across the country, designated by the Ghana Education Service (GES), on September 5, 2018 to receive complaints regarding this year’s placement into senior high schools (SHS).
Head of Communication at the Free SHS Secretariat, Josbert Gyan Kwakye, in an interview with the Ghanaian Times yesterday, could not readily give the total number of cases reported but confirmed that at least 50 cases were reported every day since the centre was operationalised.
The Ghanaian Times also observed that more than 100 worried parents and their wards had massed up in the stands at the Square awaiting their turns while others were either driving or walking to the square.
Those in the stands had been given numbers to wait to prevent a stampede. A policeman had been stationed at the entrance of the VIP stand where officials from the Free SHS Secretariat were attending to parents.
Some of them told the Ghanaian Times they had been there since morning and as of noon they were yet to be attended to and that they would wait until they were attended to.
“My children’s friends have gone to school. We are worried but hopeful that GES can change her school for her,” Mrs Pearl Ansah, whose child had been placed in a day school outside Accra, told the Ghanaian Times.
Throwing more light on the complaints, Madam Kwakye said those whose results had now been released by WAEC could now do self placement as their information had been loaded on the placement portal.
For those who had been placed in schools outside their regions, she said, could go and seek admission at community day schools nearby since they had been given the green light to enrol students if they had the capacity to do so.
She said although the centre was to end its work last Friday, it would continue to attend to parents until further notice and therefore called on parents and their wards to remain calm.
The GES on Tuesday September 4, 2018 released the placements of 423,134 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates under the 2018 Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
This is out of 521,710 total registered candidates meaning 67,382 could not be placed under the system. They have been offered an opportunity to visit the CSSPS portal to choose from a number of available schools with vacancies.
Those placed would begin the maiden double track system. Those on Green Track began September 11, 2018, whereas the Gold Track would go on November 8, 2018.
