Prof Edmund Delle, Nat’l Chairman, CPP
The Upper East Regional Chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Alhaji Hussein Ibrahim, has urged the government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to preserve the legacies and revamp all defunct factories constructed by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, first President of Ghana.
According to him, the legacies and factories when revamped would create more jobs for the youth and contribute to his government’s ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ agenda.
Alhaji Ibrahim made the call to commemorate the 109th anniversary of Dr. Nkrumah which was last Friday noted that the collapse of the factories and the legacies of Dr. Nkrumah had contributed to the high unemployment rate in the country.
He explained that residents in the Upper East Region are unhappy with the state of factories in the area saying, “We visited the Pwalugu tomato and Zuarungu meat factories and the defunct rice mills, their state is regrettable.
“The CPP is not happy with the state of affairs, we are calling on the Akufo-Addo-led administration to make revamp those factories and preserve Dr Nkrumah’s legacies the concern of most Ghanaians, because during his era there were jobs in the country.
“The factories created jobs for the citizenry, their closure created more unemployment in the country, we are appealing to the government to avoid rhetoric by revamping and preserving the legacies of Dr Nkrumah.
“We are not saying that he should build factories, he should revamp those factories, the structures are there even if it means partnering some investors, we want to see the factories working and Dr Nkrumah’s legacies preserved,” Alhaji Ibrahim stressed. –citinewsroom.com
