Mr Opare-Addo
The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has called on government to adopt the state farms model introduced by the CPP government with the use of prison labour force to revive agriculture in the country.
It said if the government had adopted the state farm model within the 21 months it has been in office the nation would have been able to produce more food.
Speaking at the celebration of the Founder’s Day at Kwamoso, a farming community where a defunct state oil palm plantation was established in the 1960s, the Eastern Regional Chairman of the CPP, Isaac Opare-Addo expressed regret that the country continued to import large amount of sugar while the Komenda Sugar Factory was wasting despite huge investment made by the government on the project.
“The prisons are holding large labour force which is wasting, the country is spending large amount of money to feed them, it is time to take advantage of the situation to engage the prisoners in more productive work to help recover the cost of maintaining the service,” he noted.
Mawutor Semeta, the Eastern Regional Secretary of the CPP, said the country had once enjoyed a well organised and prepared free education under the CPP government and is the way forward for the new Free Senior High School (SHS) regime.
He lamented that Kwamoso and facilities established by the CPP government in the community had been neglected for years but the facilities which had lasted to house the residents is a demonstration that the ideas and policies of the CPP are long-lasting and still relevant to the country. -GNA
