A 38-year -old man, who defrauded his victims under the pretext of securing them visa, has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢40,000 by Circuit Court Two, in Accra.
Justice Krobia Asante, who pleaded not guilty to seven counts of defrauding by false pretence, is to provide three sureties, one to be justified.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Patience Acheampong said between January and March, 2015, Asante told Clifford Senavor that he could secure him visa, and permit to work in an oil company in the United States of America.
She said Senavor upon hearing this, also informed his friends who showed interest Asante collected GH¢29,700 from the victims to enable him process the visa and other documents.
Chief Inspector Patience Acheampong said Asante after receiving the said amount, failed to honour his promise, and when the victims confronted him, he said he had given the money to one Mohammed Anwo alias Biggie.
The court heard that when the victims contacted Anwo, it was revealed, Asante only paid GH¢3,500 as processing fee, but squandered the remaining GH¢26,200.
Chief Insp Acheampong said Asante was arrested, and upon interrogation, he admitted the offence, and was granted bail to report periodically to the police.
She said Asante jumped bail, but was re-arrested on October 2, 2018, at Ashaiman, a suburb of Tema Township.
