Miarom Begoto
The Executive Council of African Union (AU), has ordered investigations into Daniel Batidam’s resignation and allegations of corruption within its anti-graft body.
The allegation commenced in September this year.
Chairperson of the AU Advisory Board on Corruption, Miarom Begoto indicated that “the first decision taken to investigate the corruption allegations was to do a performance audit which began last September.
“The African Union is waiting for the report on that investigation and all organs under the African Union will be subjected to an audit,” Mr Begoto noted on the sidelines of the 18th International Anti-Corruption Conference currently underway in Copenhagen, Demark.
He stated that “a second decision has been taken by the executive council to use an independent audit for the administrative, financial and human resource departments.
Daniel Batidam, a former advisor to former President John Mahama on corruption, resigned from the AU Advisory Board on Corruption in June 2018, accusing the body of abuse of trusted power, corruption, lack of probity, accountability, transparency, and integrity.
He had revealed that he took the decision to prompt the AU Commission to take urgent action to deal with the malfeasance at the continental body.
