Stakeholders in the water Sector will on Tuesday November 13, converge in Accra to brainstorm on practical means of building a sustainable water management system for the country.
The participants, who are expected to make technical inputs into proposed strategic papers, would also adopt measures to enhance efficiency on relevant future projects in drinking water supply in Ghana.
They would also deliberate on strategies towards the establishment of a regional competency centre for water management in the country in order to create the platform for regular coordinating meetings with all relevant stakeholders.
The event is being organised by the Delegation of German Industry and Commence in Ghana (AHK Ghana), a non-governmental organisation, in collaboration with the German Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, (BMU), under the Environmental Technologies initiative.
The Project Manager of Competent Center For Energy and Environment of the AHK, Ghana, Nana Afriyie, disclosed the details of the meeting at launch of a Report on Access to Clean Drinking Water and Sustainable Water Management in Ghana on Wednesday in Accra.
The report highlighted the current situation, regarding analysis and evidence from leading experts in the water sector with focus on developing holistic approaches to the challenges facing the sector.
According to Nana Afriyie, the conference would focus on transfer of knowledge and technology, especially in areas of competence which includes water and waste water management.
The initiative, he indicated sought to support feasible alternatives to conventional methods in emerging markets and exchange of expertise between Ghana and Germany.
The Head, Competence Centre for Energy and Environment, Ms Katherine Felgenhauer, said the one-day event would help address challenges in the water sector using technology.
She said, the participants who include, government officials, non governmental organisations, financial institutions, development partners, and civil society organisations would develop a road map on new modules and marketing strategies on quality water supply including roles and responsibilities.
Dr Michael Blank of the AHK Ghana said the conference would facilitate a professional and solution oriented exchange programme between the relevant actors in the water sector.
