The Director of Finance, National Youth Authority (NYA), Lawrence Adzove, has asked the youth to step up the fight against corruption in their communities.
He said corruption and its attendant negative effects remain obstructing factors on the country’s socio-economic development.
That is why NYA has resolved to support the youth as chief custodians of the nation’s heritage and future, to assume a leading role in dealing with the scourge of corruption.
Mr Adzove threw the challenge at the 2018 African youth celebration held in Ho, in the Volta region.
The celebration, which was on the theme: ‘Raising youth voices against corruption’ brought students and other youth from the region for the event.
Mr Adzove noted that the government though has put in measures to quell the ills of corruption, she could not do it alone.
It is for this reason that the NYA called on the youth to become active advocates against corruption, and to expose abuses and infractions in public financial management.
Mr Adzove stated that monies that go into the pockets of individuals in form of corruption could be used for national development.
He assured that the government would continue to put in place measures to improve the future of the youth.
In a speech read on his behalf, the Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Letsa, said Ghana government has been working assiduously to address issues relating to the youth, to ensure their development and participation in national affairs.
He asked the youth to condemn all forms of corruption with the loudest voices.
Mr Yao Semode, Volta Regional Director of NYA, said that the authority would support Ghanaian youth to be able to compete with their peers in other parts of the world.
