Mrs. Anamoo commissioning the project
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nabdam in the Upper East Region, Mrs Agnes Anamoo, has inaugurated a Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound at Gumwagre, a deprived community in the area.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony here on Monday, the DCE explained that the facility which was made up of a consulting room, delivery room, ward, Out-Patient Department (OPD), kitchen and store room, and nurses’ quarters among others would help address maternal and infant mortality in the community.
She indicated that apart from addressing maternal and infant mortality, it would also help curb the long distance the community members often travel to access healthcare in the district capital and Bolgatanga.
Mrs Anamoo explained that one of the visions of the New Patriotic Party administration was to help contribute to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals in health and education and noted that to achieve this, the district assembly had built a number of schools and CHPS compounds in most communities in the area.
On peace and security, the DCE mentioned the expansion and the construction of the district police and fire service stations. These have helped reduce crime in the area, she added.
She appealed to citizens in the area to bury their political differences and support government to provide more development in the district.
“No development can thrive in an atmosphere of disunity and petty squabble. Our enemy is poverty, illiteracy and diseases. Let us therefore unite to tackle these issues instead of fighting on political grounds”, she stressed.
The Nabdam District Health Director, Mrs Mary Seidu said the facility would help contribute to the welfare of the community and advised the community members and staff to take good care of the facility.
