Deputy Black Stars coach Ibrahim Tanko has stated that the technical bench of the team will meet to deliberate on what is ahead of Ghana following CAF’s decision to disqualify Sierra Leone from participating in 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
According to Tanko, the technical team will meet to see the way forward after the continent football governing body’s decision to have one or two slots from Group F siding for AFCON 2019 will be laid to rest.
“We are going to meet as a technical team to see the way forward of the effects of the disqualification. We must win our last game against Kenya at home to avoid all the calculations whether two or a single team will qualify from our group.”
“We will be through if we beat them and that’s the main thing to concentrate on because we never know what will come”, he told Joy FM.
Group F standings is unclear as there is no indication regarding the number of slots to be allocated to the group for the 2019 tournament.
However, Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) is yet to release a statement to that effect.
Ghana occupies second position on the log with six points, a point less than Kenya who sit at the summit.
In another development, Skyy FC president Wilson Arthur has urged clubs to reject a potential appeal to extend the six-month mandate of the Normalisation Committee.
The interim body has come under mounting pressure amid claims of snail pace of work, which continues to threaten local football.
The seeming delay has led to apprehension among Ghanaian clubs with widespread suspicion the body is clandestinely buying time to seek for extension from FIFA.
“We the clubs will not accept any extension for the Normalisation Committee. We will wait for March 31, 2019 to see what will happen,” he told Nhyira Sports.
He said “there is no clear-cut roadmap to review the statues of the FA to ensure compliance with the requirement of both FIFA and CAF and to organise and conduct elections of Ghana FA executive committee on the basis of the revised GFA statues- which is the principal mandate.” -Ghanasoccernet
