The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama has inspected a number of completed and on-going development projects sponsored by the District Development Facility (DDF) in the Afram Plains North and South Districts of the Eastern Region.
Two completed projects, a three- classroom block at Kwasi Fante and a market at Bruben were inaugurated by the Minister. The other projects under construction include two semi-detached nurses’ quarters at Tease and a three- classroom block at Koranteng- Krachi.
The minister, accompanied by her deputy, Mr Augustine Collins Ntim, was on a two- day working visit to the two districts last week as part of her ministry’s monitoring and assessment of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies(MMDAs) nationwide commenced last year.
Obviously impressed by the performance of the two assemblies particularly in the efficient utilisation of DDF funds, Hajia Alima Mahama asked the other assemblies to emulate their example in ensuring the prudent management of state resources.
In his contribution, Mr Collins Ntim asked the assemblies to regularly maintain their projects and ensure that they actually benefit the people.
He further urged the MMDAs to effectively execute the “Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) and other government programmes and interventions targeted at promoting the economic wellbeing of the people especially the rural population.
