Ghana Athletics (GA) has announced the 19 major events to be competed for at the maiden National Invitational Students Athletics Championship (NISAC) scheduled for February 24-28 at the University of Ghana Sports Complex.
Over 2000 athletes from more than 50 selected Senior High and Technical institutions are expected to take part in the event.
Mr Bawa Fuseini, President of the GA, told the Times Sports yesterday, that out of the 19 events, 14 would be contested by boys and girls with the rest of the five for single sexes.
Events opened to both boys and girls include 100m, 200m, 400m, 400m (hurdle), 800m, 1500m, 4x100m, 4x400m, 4x400m mixed relay, long jump, triple jump, high jump, javelin, shot put and discus.
The 100m hurdles event would only be competed for by girls with boys chasing honours in the 110m hurdles event.
The 3000m events is also opened only to girls with the boys expected to compete for the 5000m event.
Mr Bawah told the Times Sports that they expect a lot fireworks from the various schools selected for the championship, some of which may use the platform to rekindle their sporting rivalries.
He said preparation had reached an advanced stage with finishing touches being put to the refurbished facility which will act as a venue for the 13th Africa Games slated for Ghana.
The event is a collaboration between Ghana Athletics, Citi FM and supported by Ghana Gas.
