Management of Laweh Open University has revealed plans to offer scholarships to some prisoners in the country.
This is to enable the prisoners to improve themselves and be able to contribute their quota to nation building after serving their sentence.
President of the Open University, Professor Goski Alabi, disclosed this at the school’s second matriculation ceremony in Accra.
She indicated that the prison is supposed to transform people thus extending their services is part of their corporate social responsibility.
Prof Goski Alabi said plans are far advanced in their discussions with the management of Nsawam Prisons to offer scholarships to two inmates and later others.
She said Laweh Open University offers unparalleled flexible online education for students for the 2016 academic year.
Prof Goski Alabi added that the school will offer programmes to transform Ghana into a higher education-hub within the West African sub-region and beyond.
In all 102 students were matriculated into Laweh Open University College for the next academic year.
The university is a global partner with the Franklin University in the U.S, for the award of its degrees, diplomas and certificates.
