The Ghacem Cement Foundation has completed the distribution of free cement across the country for the 2019 edition.
Some 25,000 bags of cement were approved by the Foundation’s council to be distributed to health and educational institutions across the country grouped into the Southern (Central, Western, Western North, Volta, Oti, Eastern and Greater Accra Region) and Northern (North East, Northern, Savannah, Upper East, Upper West, Brong East, Brong, Ahafo and Ashanti Region) sectors.
The free distribution of cement was to support the institutions to build various infrastructural projects.
A fortnight ago a total of 15,450 bags of cement valued at GHS500,000 were given to selected health and educational institutions in the Southern Sector of the country, while the Northern Sector received a total of 9,400 bags valued at GHS300,800 last week at a ceremony held in Tamale at the Modern City hotel.
The Ghacem Cement Foundation was established by Ghacem Limited in 2002 as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) to assist deprived communities to improve their health and educational infrastructure or build new ones.
The foundation has since its inception given a total of 550,000 bags of cement to about 5,000 communities across the country valued at a cost of Gh. 17.6 million.
Nana Prah Agyensaim VI, Chairman of the Foundation, who made the revelation at this year’s Northern Sector event described the Foundation as a truly benevolent initiative which has contributed immensely towards the health and educational infrastructure in deprived communities of the country.
“Every year the council receives numerous applications which makes it difficult to meet considering the budget but Ghacem as a company that has charity in its DNA ensures most applications are met. The amazing part of this foundation is that it is devoid of politics and corrupt free as well,” he said.
He appealed to beneficiary institutions to use the cement for the intended purpose to drive the course.
Nana Agyensaim VI implored the public to patronize Ghacem cement as true patron that is reinvesting in our communities and supporting development.
He also seized the occasion to urge Government to ensure that the cement market is free of fake cement to protect the local manufacturers and safeguard the protection of projects as well.
Special Guest at the event was Rev. Albert Ofosuhene Frempong, District Minister of the Presbyterian Church-Jamasi who thanked Ghacem Ltd as a corporate entity which has been at the fore front of supporting Government in its developmental agenda.
He admitted that development in the Northern sector of the country cannot be mentioned without Ghacem as such all hands should be on deck to patronize Ghacem’s products and support the company in its operation.
Rev. Ofosuhene appealed to the beneficiaries to be faithful and honest to use the donation judiciously for its intended purpose.
Beneficiaries
The Northern sector 2019 donation was an event worth remembering as representatives of beneficiary institutions came happily in their numbers clad with their traditional wears that depicted the regions they represented.
Past beneficiaries shared their stories with media men present on how the Ghacem cement foundation has been a pillar and a lifesaver in the health and education in their various communities.
Elder F.T. Lartey, A Proprietor at For the Lord Academy in the Ashanti recounted how the school moved from a wooden structure to a concrete one through the Ghacem cement foundation.
“For the Lord Academy for so many years was a wooden structure as such most part of the structure started to decay some few years back which caused part of it to collapse. God was on our side so no injury or death occurred. We quickly applied for cement through the Ghacem foundation and they came to our aid with the first batch which enabled us to complete the foundation works. We applied for the second time as we needed to complete the project and through their generosity, we have been called today to come for cement.
We do not have much to say but to tell Ghacem ayekoo for their benevolence. Now teaching and learning is going on smoothly and teachers have been attracted to come to this place.
Nana Botchwey Kyere who is acclaimed as an ambassador to the Ghacem foundation in the Brong Ahafo area described the foundation as the engine of growth for the Brong and Ahafo regions of the country.
“I came into contact with the foundation when I was a teacher in the Brong Ahafo Region in 2010. The schools here were so dilapidated that it posed a threat to the lives of the kids. We heard about the foundation and together with other schools called on them for support. I am on retirement now and looking at the way schools in deprived communities in this area has developed I can boldly say the people of Brong owe a lot to Ghacem. I can even say it will be unfair to patronize any other cement product in this region other than the Ghacem cement because they have been a true pillar to our health and educational infrastructure. Mentioning Institutions which have benefitted in fact I will spend the whole day. Talk of Japekrom Presby JHS, Nada Preparatory School in Drobo, Babianiha Presby JHS ICT Centre, Suma Presby School, Yaa Miensa Health Centre, Nyamefie Health Centre and in fact a lot more. Ghacem has truly developed Brong Region” he said.
Rev. Albert Ofosuhene Frempong who is also the headmaster of Woraso Presby Primary School also praised Ghacem for reinvesting in the development of deprived communities of the country.
“Our school building was in a state of collapse and made it difficult to even attract teachers. We started the renovation and got stuck at a point due to financial constraints. Now Ghacem is here to support to ensure the project is complete for teaching and learning to resume. All we can say is God bless the Ghacem cement foundation.
