Abstract artist, Kwesi Agyare is calling on government and everyone to focus their attention on the Arts industry in Ghana.
He bemoaned, the neglect of the sector is killing talents and calls for the necessary measures to be put in place.
“This is because, in our schools, arts have been relegated to the backdrop, people who are perceived not academically sound are pushed into those classes,” he told Joy News’s Becky on the EWITHBECKS show on Joy Prime.
Kwesi Agyare added that such actions have made practising arts in the country difficult and also makes it more challenging to survive solely as an artist.
Kwesi Agyare presents to Becky an artwork designed in the name of her show.
He explains that the government, just as it does for other sectors, must pay critical attention to the arts because it will go a long way to improve the country’s economy.
“Government must take it upon itself to first and foremost buy artworks in Ghana and by Ghanaians and showcase them in our various museums. Secondly, most of the streets in Accra must be given to artists across the country to enhance the walls and the streets.”
He added that stakeholders must buy works of artists that are alive and stop investing in people who are dead and gone.
