Two bodies have been uncovered from a collapsed mining pit at Konongo-Patriansa in the Asante-Akyem Central District of the Ashanti Region.
The illegal miners are reported to have visited the pit to mine gold defying a military swoop in the area.
An excavator is currently helping efforts to dig up the pit under the supervision of the police and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
According to the NADMO Director for the area Isaac Kyei, the incident happened Sunday evening when the illegal miners entered the pit to search for gold.
Ultimate News’ Isaac Bediako reported that two others who were rescued from the pit alive are currently in the hospital receiving treatment.
This is the second galamsey pit collapse in the last few weeks after a similar incident claimed 22 illegal at Prestea.
