A Georgia high school student arrived to prom in a casket and says that she did it to to send a message to her classmates about after prom parties with dangerous drug use.
Alexandrea Clark, who has been interning at a funeral home and wants to be a funeral director explained: ‘I was thinking about my class and how they are going to prom and doing the bad stuff after prom; like having drugs and doing all that.’
She says people that do drugs, can wind up inside a casket, and says she has been planning this prom entrance for two years.
‘I was shocked,’ Alexandrea Clark, the senior at Americus Sumter High School said to 11Alive over Skype Monday. ‘I didn’t know that it was going to go that viral.’
Clark arrived to the prom in the casket in a hearse on Saturday, in a 10 minute ride from the West Mortuary, where she has been interning.
She says her mother started pushing her to think about her future when she was in middle school, and once she started interning at the funeral home she knew it was the industry she wanted to be in.
‘I started volunteering with the funeral home, and I started liking it,’ Clark said.
Clark explains that while her ride, unlike the traditional limousine, was morbid, she was not trying to offend anyone.
‘This is just what I do, and this is my career that I plan on doing and I love what I do,’ she explained. ‘I love being around people and helping others. And it’s not to disrespect anybody.’
While her prom arrival was more about death, the bright young woman has great life plans lying ahead of her.
She will be attending Ogeechee Technical College in the fall, and says she has had several phone calls from funeral directors in Georgia, offering her internships and help while she is in school.
