The national house of chiefs has expressed worry about escalation of Chieftaincy disputes in the country and the direct interference of politicians in Chieftaincy matters.
According to the President of the national house of Chiefs, Togbe Afede XIV, the phenomenon has assumed alarming proportion and needs to be arrested immediately.
The house has admonished Chiefs who are involved in Chieftaincy disputes of one kind or the other to ensure that they adhere to the due processes of law and procedure laid down by the relevant statutes on Chieftaincy.
Addressing the national house of chiefs made up of selected paramount chiefs across the 10 regions in their sitting in Kumasi in the Ashanti region, Togbe Afede XIV expressed serious concerns about politicians involvement in Chieftaincy disputes.
Togbe Afede XIV, in his submission said politicians should be bold to direct chiefs who run to them to interfere in chieftaincy disputes on their behalf to resort to due process of the law in resolution of such disputes or conflicts instead of political patronage.
He condemned the polarization and political tension that has engulfed the country of late.
He added that the traditional house is amazed at the high incidence of gaping partisanship and the politics of equalization that has characterized discussions and debates on national issues, particularly in the course of programmes such as newspaper reviews on both radio and television.
Togbe Afede XIV, believes these discussions constantly degenerate into such partisanship and are full of rancour that the ordinary citizen is left completely confused as to the essence of such programmes which the public should be educated.
He charged politicians to place Ghana first in their dealings to help reduce political tension.
