The chief of Asaam, Nana Sipon Panin Nyamea Sarfo II, has commended President Akufo Addo for his foresight in creating the Ministry of Special Development Initiatives; responsible for infrastructure development in rural and deprived communities.
He said “This ministry follows in the steps of the Presidential Special Initiative. During the Kufour’s NPP regime our community received massive support in oil palm plantation which is still benefiting the people of my community. Your Ministry’s supported projects like this warehouse will also help to reduce post harvest losses and maintain the income level of the people. Your ministry is indeed a blessing to Ghana”.
The chief’s commendation follows a visit by the Minister of Special Development Initiatives, Hon. Hawa Koomson, as part of her 10 days tour of the Middle Belt Development Zone, to inspect the progress of work on a 1,000 metric tonne prefabricated warehouse being constructed for the storage of grains and cereals to support government’s flagship program, planting for food and job program.
The Minister on her part thanked the chief and people of Asaam for making available a piece of land for that project which is aimed at addressing post harvest losses as well as creating jobs for the community.
She added that, the warehouse project is being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, through the Buffer Stock Company.
“This warehouse project at Asaam in Mampong is currently being replicated in Drobonso, Tepa, Kumawu, Ejura Sekyeredumase and Offinso North, all in the Ashanti Region. This project will serve as a storage facility for the storage of grains to reduce if not to eliminate post harvest losses and will also go a long way to reduce the import bill on the nation as well as create jobs for the people of Asaam and its environs”, she said.
Hon. Hawa Koomson assured the chief that, the government through her ministry will roll out more projects for all constituencies as part of the $1 million per constituency allocation based on the needs assessment carried out last year.
The Project Consultant, Ricky Opare-Essilfie and the Site Engineer of the warehouse project, Thomas Dwomoh, in their brief to the Minister, assured that the project will be ready by the end of November 2018.
They also added that, the warehouse will be a 1,000 metric tonne pre-fabricated structure with an office, a laboratory for testing, a space for a dryer, a washroom, a mechanised borehole system powered by a solar.
These warehouses are expected to create a number jobs for our unemployed youth.
In total, the government is constructing fifty (50) 1,000 metric tonnes warehouses in some selected districts throughout the country this year alone.
