Medeama head coach Ibrahim Tanko has dismissed claims that the club’s 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title success was down to luck, insisting the triumph was earned through hard work and commitment.
The Yellow and Mauve outfit secured the league crown and are set to be officially presented with the trophy today, May 28, at TNA Park.
Speaking to Graphic Sports, Tanko stressed that Medeama’s success was the result of careful planning, significant investment and determination throughout the season.
“It’s a good feeling to win the league, but I don’t think it was a fluke. We worked very hard for it,” the former Black Stars assistant coach said.
Tanko credited the achievement to the collective efforts of the club’s leadership and playing staff, expressing gratitude to the management, board members, club president, technical team and players for their roles in the title-winning campaign.
He noted that Medeama’s ability to produce four national team players during the season reflected the quality and dedication within the squad.
Despite individual performances attracting attention, the coach declined to name a standout player, maintaining that the league title was a team accomplishment.
Tanko also revealed the moments he believed Medeama had positioned themselves strongly for the championship, pointing to key victories over Bibiani Gold Stars and Basake Holy Stars.
“I think the day we beat Bibiani Gold Stars and the game against Basake Holy Stars, after that game, I was 90 to 95 per cent sure that we were going to win the league,” he stated.
He further described Medeama’s strong finish against Heart of Lions, with a game still to spare, as another important milestone in the club’s impressive season.
Following their domestic success, Medeama will now shift focus to representing Ghana in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League campaign.
