Nations FC head coach Stephen Frimpong Manso has described winning the MTN FA Cup as a great feeling, even as his side comes to terms with relegation from the Ghana Premier League.
Nations finished 16th in the just-ended league season, dropping into the Access Bank Division One League. However, they ended the campaign on a high note, beating Dreams FC 5-4 in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw after regulation time and extra time to lift the FA Cup.
"It's a great feeling. For me, it's very good. It doesn't matter what has happened," Frimpong Manso said.
The victory secures Nations FC a place in next season's CAF Confederation Cup, marking the second straight year the coach has qualified a team for continental competition. Last season, he led Bibiani Gold Stars to the CAF Champions League by winning the Ghana Premier League title.
"We needed to compensate the management and also our fans. They were all determined to play for this game. We had to win this game; otherwise, it would have been very bad for us," he added.
Despite the relegation, Nations FC will now prepare for continental football, a remarkable achievement that offers a pathway to redemption. For Frimpong Manso, the FA Cup triumph is proof that even in difficult times, the spirit of the club remains unbroken.
