Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC have officially approached Heart of Lions over the signing of highly rated centre-back Ruben Hennessy, as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of next season's CAF Champions League campaign.
The Tarkwa-based club have identified the 26-year-old defender as a key target to bolster their backline following their domestic title triumph. A deal is considered achievable, with Heart of Lions open to negotiations for the transfer of their prized asset.
Hennessy has been a pillar of consistency for the Kpando-based side since joining during the 2023/24 season. The centre-back, who wears the number 4 shirt, has made over 80 appearances for Lions across three seasons and has established himself as one of the most reliable defenders in the Ghana Premier League.
Born on August 24, 1999, the 26-year-old has been an ever-present figure for Lions in the ongoing 2025/26 campaign. He has started 18 league matches, logging a total of 1,620 minutes on the pitch, and has found the back of the net once.
Before joining Heart of Lions, Hennessy spent three years with Tema Youth, where he was named the Best Defender in the 2021 Division One League Super Cup. He formed a formidable partnership with Ebenezer Abban at the heart of Lions' defence, helping the club secure a second-place finish in the 2024/25 season with 60 points, just three behind champions Gold Stars.
Hennessy's current market value is estimated at â¬100,000, and with his contract situation allowing for negotiations, Heart of Lions are prepared to cash in should a suitable offer be tabled. The club has a history of allowing top performers to depart when good deals are presented, having previously sold their marksman Nana Kwame Oppong to Cambodian side Visakha FC.
Medeama, who have already begun preparations for their return to the CAF Champions League, are moving swiftly to secure defensive reinforcements. While Hennessy has previously been linked with a move to Asante Kotoko, it is the newly crowned champions who have now made the first official move for his signature.
With Heart of Lions open to negotiations, the coming days could prove decisive in determining where the highly rated centre-back will be playing his football next season.
