Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has shared his excitement following Caleb Yirenkyi's debut goal for the Black Stars in the iconic number 3 shirt.

Yirenkyi found the back of the net in Ghana's 1-1 draw against Wales on Tuesday, pouncing on a rebound from Ernest Nuamah, donning the number 3 jersey famously associated with Gyan during his illustrious career with the national team.

Taking to social media, Gyan responded with a cryptic but telling post. "Jonathan Mensah scored his first goal for Ghana against Togo in a friendly. I wasn't in the team. Ask him what was his jersey number," Gyan wrote, adding smiling and prayer emojis.

The reference to Jonathan Mensah is significant. The former Ghana defender scored his first international goal against Togo in a friendly back in 2011, also wearing the number 3 jersey at a time when Gyan was still active for the Black Stars.

Gyan's post appears to be a light-hearted comment about the number 3 shirt, which carries weight due to his legendary status. By invoking Mensah's example, the former captain seems to suggest that scoring in the number 3 jersey is nothing new – and that Yirenkyi is now part of that lineage.

For Yirenkyi, scoring on debut in such an iconic shirt is a memorable milestone. For Gyan, it's just another chapter in the history of the number 3 jersey.

Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. The Black Stars open their campaign against Panama on June 17, followed by England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.

Send your news stories to [email protected] and via WhatsApp on +233 546310076.

Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has given his stamp of approval to observations that Black Stars defender Jonas Adjetey stepped up in Ghana's 1-1 draw with Wales, despite struggling in recent outings.

Taking to social media after the match, Gyan simply wrote "FACTS" in response to a post highlighting that Adjetey, who has been poor in recent games, delivered a much-improved performance against the Welsh.

The friendly at Cardiff City Stadium saw Ghana take the lead in the 66th minute through a well-taken finish from Caleb Yirenkyi, who continued his red-hot form from FC Norsdjaelland. The midfielder pounced on a rebound after a great run from Ernest Nuamah and calmly slotted past the Welsh goalkeeper to give the Black Stars the advantage.

However, Ghana's lead was cancelled in injury time.

Adjetey, who has faced criticism for his performances in recent friendly defeats to Austria and Germany, produced a composed and commanding display at the heart of the defence. The centre-back recorded an 79% pass accuracy, made nine clearances, two blocks and won two duels.

His improved showing was a welcome sight for head coach Carlos Queiroz, who has been searching for a reliable defensive partnership ahead of the World Cup.

Gyan, who led Ghana to the World Cup quarter-finals in 2010, rarely comments on individual performances, making his endorsement of Adjetey's showing notable. For the defender, the challenge now is to carry that form into Ghana's Group L opener against Panama on June 17.

Ghana will also face England and Croatia in the group stage. If Adjetey can maintain this level, he could prove to be a key figure for the Black Stars in North America.

Send your news stories to [email protected] and via WhatsApp on +233 546310076.

He joined League Two's Harrogate Town in July 2024, making 34 appearances in his first season before adding 16 more in 2025/26. His performances earned him England U-15, U-16, and England C national team call-ups.

Director of Football Jody Brown said: "We looked at Zico prior to bringing Aaron in last summer, but he wasn't available. He's comfortable on both sides, and at 25 years old, he brings a great deal of EFL and NL experience, still has potential to improve, but already has many of the qualities we want from our full backs".

Brown added: "I coached against him a few times and saw the problems he caused us, and how he dealt with our play, he always impressed me".

Brown emphasized: "He wants to be here, which is key, and we think he's a really positive addition to our squad".

Send your news stories to [email protected] and via WhatsApp on +233 546310076.

The hosts created two dangerous opportunities within the first 15 minutes, but goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi came to Ghana’s rescue with a pair of impressive saves.

His interventions ensured the Black Stars remained level as they gradually settled into the game.

After a cautious first half that ended without a goal, Ghana looked sharper following the interval.

Head coach Carlos Queiroz made several changes, and the substitutions had an immediate impact. One of those introductions, Caleb Yirenkyi, made the most of his opportunity by putting the Black Stars ahead in the 66th minute.

The young midfielder finished from close range after winger Ernest Nuamah created the opening with an incisive attacking move.

Yirenkyi’s goal appeared to put Ghana on course for a much-needed victory, with the Black Stars enjoying greater control as the match progressed.

However, Wales fought back and found a late equaliser to deny Ghana the win, leaving the visitors still searching for their first victory in six matches.

The result means the Black Stars head into the final stages of their World Cup preparations without a win in their last six outings, a run the coaching staff will be eager to end before the tournament begins.

Ghana’s next test comes against Jamaica on June 10 in another key preparatory fixture.

The Black Stars will hope to use that match to regain momentum and finally end the winless run before beginning their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.

At the World Cup, Ghana will compete with the likes of Panama, Croatia, and England in Group L.

Send your news stories to [email protected] and via WhatsApp on +233 546310076.

The Belgian giants remain completely convinced that Bisiwu's true market value is significantly higher than the amount Barcelona currently wants to pay.

Sporting director Deco has spent months laying extensive groundwork, even travelling to Belgium to personally meet with the youngster's family. Consequently, Barcelona's sporting department refuses to give up and plans to return with an improved proposal in the coming weeks.

Barcelona's determination highlights their commitment to securing one of Europe's most promising young wingers before other clubs enter the race. The Catalans see Bisiwu as a perfect long-term addition to their attacking options.

Send your news stories to [email protected] and via WhatsApp on +233 546310076.

Wales created two promising opportunities within the opening 15 minutes, but goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi was equal to the challenge on both occasions.

The Ghana shot-stopper produced a pair of excellent saves to keep the Black Stars level as Wales looked to capitalise on their strong opening spell.

After weathering the early pressure, Ghana gradually settled into the game and began to assert themselves.
