However, the Black Stars’ two-goal lead quickly disappeared as Mohammed Badamosi pulled one back from the penalty spot before Omar Colley equalised four minutes before the break.

Gambia then completed the comeback in the second half, with Ebrima Colley putting the visitors ahead in the 68th minute before Omar Colley scored his second in stoppage time.

Queiroz believes Ghana’s inability to protect their advantage had a significant impact on the team’s mentality.

“This was one of those days that everything went wrong for our team. Especially in the first half, after we had been winning 2-0, we conceded two goals very easily, and those two goals turned the story of the game,” he said.

“Conceding two goals in the first half killed the morale and made my players nervous.”

The defeat leaves Ghana without a point from their opening two Group C matches and extends their winless run in AFCON qualifying to eight games.

The Black Stars will seek to revive their qualification campaign when they face Somalia in November.

Queiroz believes the latest setback should prompt a broader assessment of the national team rather than a narrow focus on Tuesday’s defeat.

“This is not only two losses for the Ghana national team. This is the game number eight in a row that Ghana doesn’t win one match in the qualifiers, African qualifiers. It is the game number eight,” Queiroz said.

“So this issue doesn’t start today, doesn’t start yesterday. We have to start to think about that.”

The Portuguese coach said Ghana must examine several areas if the team is to reverse its fortunes.

“It’s not only something that happened here today, but there are a lot of things. There are a lot of things that the Ghana national team have to review,” he added.

The Black Stars now face an uphill battle in Group C, having lost both opening matches.

They will return to qualifying action against Somalia in November.

“So you have to call the players that you trust.”

The Portuguese coach also acknowledged that several newcomers are still adapting to the demands of international football, particularly the psychological pressure associated with representing Ghana.

“I think, first of all, we had so many players that are first-timers in the team,” he said.

Queiroz added that understanding the responsibility of wearing the Ghana shirt takes time and cannot be developed overnight.

The Police Service said the decision was to allow for further public awareness and education on the programme before its full rollout.

According to the Service, the additional period will enable motorists and other road users to better understand how TRAFFITECH-GH operates, the traffic offences that will be detected and the Electronic Notices of Violation (ENV) that will be issued to motorists who breach traffic regulations.

The programme is being implemented by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service as part of efforts to tackle indiscipline on the country’s roads and improve compliance with road traffic laws.

In a statement issued on September 29, 2026, the Police urged motorists, drivers and vehicle owners to use the extra month to familiarise themselves with the system ahead of the November 1 commencement.

The Service said the postponement would provide an opportunity for broader public education on the automated enforcement system and its implications for road users.

It also expressed appreciation to the media for its support throughout the introduction of TRAFFITECH-GH and said it remained committed to working with stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the programme.

The full implementation was originally scheduled for October 1, 2026, but will now commence on November 1, 2026.

Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz has explained his decision to introduce Augustine Boakye from the bench, saying new players must not be exposed to difficult situations before they are ready.

“But you have to be sure that when you put new players on the pitch, you don't burn the players, you don't send them to a fire moment,” Queiroz said.

Boakye came on in the 74th minute of Ghana’s 4-2 defeat to The Gambia, replacing Kojo Oppong Peprah as Queiroz made changes during the second half.
