President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says the fastest way to resolve the country’s economic challenges is through entrepreneurship and effective economic development.
Speaking at a ceremony for young entrepreneurs dubbed ‘The Presidential Pitch for Startups” in Accra, the president reiterated government’s resolve to support the growth of businesses.
President Akufo-Addo pointed out that government is poised to support the growth of startup businesses and urged young entrepreneurs to aim for the global market with their ideas.
“In Ghana, we have not done so well incubating ideas and developing them into global giants even though we have lots of enterprising creative and innovative youth seeking opportunities as we have seen. My government is determined to buck the trend.”
The president added that his government is putting necessary measures in place to ensure that entrepreneurs grow to become global brands.
“Every great invention began with an idea. All the Wright brothers had was an idea and today we have a thriving aviation industry the world over. A journey of 5,000 miles they say begins with a step. We are taking the first step,” he said.
The Presidential Pitch for Start-ups is a project designed to offer young Ghanaian entrepreneurs aged between 18 and 35 the opportunity to market their business ideas and to get financial assistance to implement them.
The project is in line with the president’s vision of assisting young entrepreneurs to nurture their business ideas and improve livelihoods.
The maiden presidential pitch was won by Vanessa Aisha Liman, 19.
She received a GH¢50,000 prize to help fund her agro-processing initiative.
President Akufo-Addo commended Vanessa for her initiative, and pledged a personal amount of GH¢25,000 to support her.
