GES Welfare Association gets new executives

The Ghana Education Service (GES) Headquarters Staff Welfare Association has, recently, met in Accra to elect a new set of executives.

Speaking at the meeting prior to the elections, Mr. Anthony Boateng, the Deputy Director-General of the GES, urged members to hold their leaders accountable in the management of the Association and that, “If you, as members, are inactive in the affairs and activities of the Association, the leaders will also be ineffective and it will defeat the Association’s objectives.”

Supervised by Reverend Bismark Akandi, the Chief Internal Auditor of GES, and chaired by Madam Valentina Quansah, the voting exercise ended successfully with Richmond Atta-Williams as chairman, Grace Ewoenam Torvor as secretary and Peter Kusi as financial secretary with others being Ernest Dami (treasurer) and Endurance Ahadjie (organizing secretary).

The rest that were elected unopposed included; George Larbi (a representative of the teaching staff), Edward Obeng Gyekye (representing the teaching staff), Eunice Asiedu Banor (representing the non-teaching staff) and Francis Amor (representing non-teaching staff).

In a brief speech after the elections, Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, the Director-General of the GES, congratulated the new executives on their elections and urged them to work hard to justify the confidence that the members of the Association have reposed in them.

The Association, which is said to have been properly formed in 2006 with its current figure of over 300 members, manages welfare and related issues, including the facilitation of the payment of medical expenses, pension benefits and death gratuities to its members.
