The clergy have a role to play to ensure national cohesion, and must therefore speak up against wrongs in the country, Apostle Mike Etrue, Kaneshie Area Head of The Church of Pentecost has admonished.
“Inasmuch as we pray for the nation, pastors should be able to also tell what is wrong and what is right,” he told journalists on the sidelines of the 2019 Easter Sunday Convention.
Aps. Etrue noted that if the clergy remain mute on negative development in the country, the ills in society will thrive.
“We should speak out. Either president or any minister, when someone is doing something which is not good, which will not enhance the peace of the nation, the clergy should be able to speak our mind about it. So that there will be cohesion, there will be love, there will be peace and unity among ourselves within the nation.
He reminded Christians that the resurrection of Jesus Christ has transformed the old core life to new, and the new core life calls for many things.
It is therefore incumbent on Christendom to have greater impact in wherever they find themselves in society.
“If we are saying about 70% of Ghanaians are Christians, and we see a lot of corrupt things, we should cause a change. We should try to influence people’s lives,” he stated.
Aps. Etrue admonished Ghanaians to pray for whoever is elected as the president without going on party lines in this cause for the betterment of the nation.
“There is so much divisions in Ghana. People should move from that level; and see Ghanaians as one people, with one destiny, with one hope that when Ghana improves, we all improve”.
Touching on the importance of the annual Easter Convention, he said every year’s celebration has its own impact on the life of people and those who have accepted Jesus. “Every year, there is a transformational information; transformational lifestyle of people. People come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Many souls are won through such occasions, so it is very relevant that it is observed yearly.”
He stated further: “When you look at the church of Pentecost, our vision for 2023 ‘Possessing nations’, we want to possess wherever we are, we want to transform people’s lives, and this is one of the occasions we use to transform people’s lives. We talk about love, we talk about concern for people, we show love to people and also we draw the attention of the Christians that wherever you are, you have to cause a change. You see, because people talk about corruption in the society, a whole lot of things that is happening. But this is a time we try to conscientise our church members that we should move from that level, people should see us that we have changed.
He wished the nation a Happy Easter and prayed that the future will be bright for Ghana
