The appointment of Dr Baffour Awuah as the new Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has been withdrawn, 3news.com can confirm.
A source close to Dr Awuah said his appointment was withdrawn via an email from the Presidency.
No reasons were given for the decision, the source told 3news.com.
Dr Awuah was appointed as the Director General to replace Dr Anthony Nsiah Asare, who went on mandatory retirement.
His appointment was communicated in a letter dated Tuesday, November 5, 2019 and signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo.
He was to act in the new position.
But 3news.com gathers that the President withdrew Dr Baffour Awuah’s appointment as a result of a petition sent to him by some officers at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where the new appointee served as Medical Director.
According to the petition, Dr Baffour Awuah is affiliated to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and worked against health officers whom he considered affiliated to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) between 2008 and 2016.
