Manchester City fought back from a goal down to beat Paris Saint German 2-1 at their own backyard in the first leg semi final of the UEFA Champions League.
Marquinhos sent the host into the lead in the first half before Kevin De Bryne and Riyad Mahrez scored in the second half to hand Manchester City the win.
The night in Paris saw some key players living up to the hype and others also dwindling throughout the 90 minute.
Here are the five takeaways from the game
Mbappe’s bad night
If PSG were going to win against Manchester City, Mbape was always going to be key.
The French side were always going to rely on his pace, skill and finishing for goals but thankfully for Manchester City, Mbape didn’t show up and had one of his worst night in the Champions League – he registered zero shorts on target.
Kevin de Bruyne ltge comeback
Kevin de Bruyne since joining Manchester City 6 years ago has been one of the key figures in the team.
He has been part of the previous Manchester City team who have bottled it on night like this before.
Having the armband as the leader on the field, he led the comeback by scoring the equalizer in the second half and urged his boys on.
Mahrez’s individual brilliance
Riyad Mahrez did what he knows how to do best, the freekick he scored which won Manchester City all three points isn’t the first he had scored from that angle in a game of such importance.
He did similar in 2019 AFCON semi final between Algeria and Nigeria – that goal sent Algeria to the finals of the nations cup.
His individual brilliance won it for Manchester City last night.
Pep’s masterclass
Pep Guardiola knew Potchettino’s game plan and the strength of the PSG team – press and rely on swift counter attacking.
The Spaniard went to control the game and neutralize the PSG threats upfront by cutting all supplies to them.
Basically why Kylian Mbape was off throughout the game.
Tie not over yet
Manchester City pulled one if their best performance in Europe last night and it wasn’t surprising they won the first leg.
Despite the advantage, PSG can’t be written off just and knowing it against Manchester City who have bottled it consistently when it mattered most against teams with less quality compared to PSG.
