Nigerian chef Hilda Effiong Bassey, widely known as Hilda Baci, has set her sights on breaking the Guinness World Record for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual.”
After completing an impressive 88 hours and 50 minutes of continuous cooking, she has surpassed the current record holder.
Baci embarked on this remarkable culinary journey last Thursday, igniting her cooker at 4 p.m.
Since then, she has persevered and surpassed the previous world record holder in the early hours of Monday morning.
Pending certification by the Guinness World Record, Baci will secure the coveted title, displacing Lata Tondon, an Indian chef who achieved an uninterrupted cooking marathon of 87 hours and 45 minutes in 2019.
Currently, Baci’s cooking marathon is taking place at Amore Gardens in Lekki, Lagos State, captivating the attention of onlookers and supporters.
Despite the rain, Nigerians, including numerous celebrities, have braved the weather to cheer on the visibly exhausted chef physically.
On Monday morning, Baci reached the impressive milestone of four consecutive days of non-stop cooking, further solidifying her determination and resilience.
It is worth noting that Baci previously emerged victorious in the inaugural edition of the Jollof Face-off Competition in 2021, securing a grand prize of $5,000.
Her relentless pursuit of excellence has propelled her to this monumental attempt at breaking a Guinness World Record.
The Guinness Book of Records, initially published by the Guinness Brewery in Ireland in 1955, is a comprehensive reference book containing a vast array of human and natural world records.
Over the years, it has evolved into one of the most widely recognized and frequently consulted reference sources globally.
To secure a world record listing, individuals or groups must provide substantial evidence to the Guinness World Records team and undergo a thorough verification process. This ensures the integrity and accuracy of the records documented within the esteemed publication.
Several Nigerian personalities including the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor of Lagos State, Jide Sanwo Olu, Wiz Kid, Tiwa Savage have all sent words of congratulations and support to her.
Chef LATA, the past Guinness World Records holder for the Longest Cooking Marathon by an Individual also took to social media to congratulate HILDA BACI as she continues to push to beat the record held by the former, since 2019.
As Hilda Baci continues her extraordinary culinary feat, Nigerians and the international community eagerly await the official confirmation of her new Guinness World Record.
