The Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey has called on all actors in Ghana’s elections, Political Parties, Electoral Commission, Security Services and Civil Society Groups to play their respective roles without fear or favour during the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Mr Quartey who made these remarks at the 2024 Election Planning Retreat organised by the National Peace Council in Accra noted that this will ensure the integrity of the general elections and put the country in a positive light.
He acknowledged the importance of the meeting between the Peace Council Board, the Executive Secretary, the Executive Chairmen of Regional Peace Councils, and Directors as it will allow the Council to plan and strategise ahead of the elections in December.
“I pray that the opportunity that this meeting offers will not be lost on you at the end of your dialogue, particularly, to internally appraise the Council and devise strategies for the realisation of your full mandate, particularly to ensure social cohesion, tolerance and coexistence before, during and after the 2024 general elections,” he stated.
He further advised the National Peace Council to fashion their activities according to law, policy, and administrative regulations to ensure that no one is left out in the quest to seek total peace in Ghana.
He commended the National Peace Council for consistently contributing to peaceful conflict resolution, especially in chieftaincy and political conflicts in the country.
The Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu Gyamfi, stated that the Council will continue to do its best to safeguard the peace currently enjoyed in Ghana.
He added that Ghana will sail through elections and continue to be a beacon of hope in Africa.
